Sioe Ddawns Aml-Gyfrwng

Comisiynodd Prosiect Wyth Bethan Williams-Jones i gynhyrchu perfformiad dawns yn plethu dawns cyfoes a gwerin i’w berfformio ar lwyfan y pafiliwn ar nos Iau yr Eisteddfod. Gweithiodd Bethan gyda 4 o ddawnswyr gan cynnwys 2 dawnswyr gwerin sydd wedi ennill cystadlaethau yn yr Eisteddfod gan rhoi cyfle proffesiynol iddynt yn y byd dawns. Yn ogystal rhoddwyd y cyfle i un ohonynt Ioan Williams i weithio fel choreograffydd gan eto rhoi cyfle proffesiynol cynnar iddo yn y maes mae o’n gobeithio gweithio ynddo. Roedd hyn yn gweithio o fewn strategaeth datblygu artistiaid ifanc yr Eisteddfod.

Llwyddodd Bethan a’r tîm i greu perfformiad dyfeisgar o safon gan gwneud y mwyaf o’r adnoddau yn y pafiliwn gan gydweithio yn arbennig gyda’r cynllunydd goleuo Russ Grubiak. Cafwyd adborth gwych gan y gynulleidfa a braf iawn oedd gweld gwaith oedd yn plethu y traddodiadol a cyfoes gan taw prin iawn yw y cyfle fel arfer.

Multi-Media Dance Show

Prosiect WYTH commissioned Bethan Williams-Jones to produce a dance performance weaving contemporary and folk dance to be performed on Thursday evening at the Eisteddfod. Bethan worked with 4 dancers that included 2 folk dancers that have won Eisteddfod competitions to give them professional opportunities in the dance sector. One of them, Ioan Williams was given this opportunity to work as a choreographer of the performance giving him early professional experience in the field he is hoping to work in in the future. This was working with the strategy to develop young Eisteddfod artists.

Bethan and the team managed to successful create an inventive of high standard by making the most of the pavilion’s resources and by collaborating with the lighting designer Russ Grubiak. The feedback received from the audience was very positive and it was great to see a piece of work weaving the traditional and contemporary as the opportunity to do this is rare.

“Creais y delweddau a’r gerddoriaeth ar gyfer ein sioe ddawns i hyrwyddo heddwch yn yr hinsawdd fyd-eang bresennol, gan dynnu ysbrydoliaeth o ddigwyddiadau arwyddocaol yn hanes Cymru, pan unodd y bobl am newid”

“Creais y delweddau a’r gerddoriaeth ar gyfer ein sioe ddawns i hyrwyddo heddwch yn yr hinsawdd fyd-eang bresennol, gan dynnu ysbrydoliaeth o ddigwyddiadau arwyddocaol yn hanes Cymru, pan unodd y bobl am newid. Roedd y sioe yn cynnwys cyfeiriadau at streic y glowyr yn 1984, streiciau chwarel Penrhyn, a'r ymgyrch barhaus i atal tai haf rhag cael eu prynu yng Nghymru. Defnyddiais ymadroddion Cymraeg cyfarwydd, megis "A oes heddwch?" o seremoni cadeirio'r Eisteddfod. Penderfynais gyfuno alawon traddodiadol Cymreig fel "Ymadawiad y Brenin" (a glywyd hefyd yn yr Eisteddfod yn ystod y seremonïau hyn) gyda cherddoriaeth ‘drum & bass’, tra bod y coreograffi yn cyfuno arddulliau dawnsio traddodiadol a chyfoes. Roedd y dull hwn yn arddangos cefndiroedd amrywiol y Cymry ac yn pwysleisio undod wrth sefyll dros gyfiawnder. Oherwydd bod yr Eisteddfod yn cael ei chynnal ym Mhontypridd eleni, ysgrifennais geiriau i gyd-fynd a’r cerddoriaeth a ysbrydolwyd gan yr anthem genedlaethol. Ysgrifennwyd yr anthem gan y bardd lleol Evan James, ac roedd hwn hefyd wedi helpu atgyfnerthu neges graidd y sioe. Cafodd caneuon traddodiadol fel "Ym Mhontypridd" eu cynnwys hefyd i glymu'r holl elfennau at ei gilydd ymhellach.”

“I created the images and the music for our dance show to promote peace in the current world-wide climate, drawing inspiration from significant events in Welsh history, when people united for change. The show included references to the miners strikes in 1984, the Penrhyn quarry strikes, and the ongoing campaign to stop the purchasing of holiday homes in Wales. I used Welsh expressions such as ‘A Oes Heddwch?’ from the Eisteddfod chairing ceremony.I decided to comine Welsh folk tunes such as ‘Ymadawiad y Brenin’ (which is also heard during the Eisteddfod ceremonies) with drum & bass music, this was while the choreography combined folk dance styles with contemporary dance. This style showcased the diversity of Welsh people and emphasised the unity  of working together for justice. As the Eisteddfod was located in Pontypridd this year, I wrote words to music that was inspired by the music of the national anthem. The anthem was written by the local poet Evan James, and this helped emphasise the shows’ core message. Traditional tunes such as ‘Ym Mhontypridd’ were also included to tie all the elements together further.”
